The Eternal Battle

To the death I will fight with myself.
God will choose my
left brain halve
and Satan the right.
I will fight until I grow crippled
and wrinkled,
old and senile,
on an oxygen tank in my hospital bed,
a hopeless loner.
Then, when my battle ends,
they still will fight.
God on the left,
Satan takes the right,
but another human takes my place.
The despairing cycle of life.
