The dust devil escapes!

Two fingers trapped in a tinkle
Tap dance on the last
The ivories louder and louder
The notes spinning, spinning so fast

Unleashing the whirlwind it does twirls about the room
The magical piano from which a dust devil makes his escapes
“POOF” thrust into darkness…
As the twister steals the candles from their fox-trotting flames

The aches and pains of my two tiny fingers
As they struggled to slow
To break the twisting cyclone of the spells
All I have to do is just to let go!

Gales and the gusts of the once tiny beast
Thickening darkness he threatens my life
If I could only avoid the tempest tornado
And turn back on the lights

But alas, my arm forever glued, from keyboard it will not move
The one light switches itself on
An idea from out of my own head
A shout to the beast in the black, come get me instead

Then his wind whips and whispers
At first it’s right into my ears
But within the next second a train in a tunnel
The now massive demon beginning to near

My digits still pumping
I pull my arm straight
In hopes that my taunting…
Will continue to bring him my way

Like a plane crash…
Out of the ebony fog
The impact of the fiend
Knocks me free from this instrument carved from the log

Sprawled among the tile I lay
And all at once the darkness is gone
The destruction, the mess is also fixed
But my screams now shatter the calm

As I watch…
Those two little fingers plunking on and on
“Plunk, plink!”
And only my hand hangs on!

Nighttiger

A fortyish native born all American man. Married twice and for the last time. I have four children; Three daughters and one son that are all over the age of eighteen. I also have two grandchildren; one three years old and one nine months old. Inspired by God, tragedy, life's experiences and then a fairy tale love. I never intentionally set out to write poetry, but "She" inspired me. "She" meaning the love of my life. That love is a passion that after thirteen years still grows stronger each and every day. It eventually had to be put into writing. As I wrote poetry to her, she encouraged me to approach other subjects. Doing so brought me to discover that poetry could wash away the bitter tastes of life (suicide, cancer, and divorce) that were still living like demons inside me. So when poetic therapy brought those impish fiends to a stalemate, I began to experiment more. Creating fictional characters and situations within my works. The support of this online community has inspired me even further to continue to hone my writing skills giving the readers the best that I can offer. Thanks to all you out there in Lulu land. more…
