The Bells of Yorkshire

I retreated to my bed
Knowing my mind would take me in and I'd be protected in my head.
Yet still on guard as I drifted into deeper depths of abyss
 Time was running out
I could not find the moment to care
About the state of my room
Or the corruption that now dwelt in my hair
Or even close the window; a possible fatal mistake.
 My eyelids crashed down
The steel doors of a fortress shutting out the world
Darkness engulfed my vision, though soft and harmonic
Not the deathly blackness that had consumed the previous night
Of which demons and devils, lurked in legions
 Killing everything in sight.

Daylight streamed into the room
Adrenaline and strength pulsed through my soul
Yet I needed sleep soon
But I could not help but think of sweater
Fine lines of life and death
Of which I had surely crossed hours before
As I gazed down at the blood now flooding the floor.
Melodic bells softly sang in the distance
And I could feel myself letting go.
Heroism passed into normality
Normality proceeded onto white light
And fear.
Endless fear.
