The Bear and The Butterfly

It was all over.                                                                              June 2014

The Bear was in love

the first time that he saw the Butterfly.

He followed her out

of the woods to a clearing

where wildflowers rippled and swayed.

She closed and expanded

descended and landed

on the tip of the nose of the Bear.

He fumbled his paws

burst into applause

as the Butterfly took to the air.

The Summer suspended

in sunlight and honey,

the Amber that traps and preserves,

this pair of two jumping,

cartwheeling and thumping,

as happy as any deserve.

The sun grew so full

of its nectary burden

that it started to finally drop

and anyone there

would see, and quite clearly,

that this day, like all days, would stop.

If there is a night

then that is alright

for the sun's where the moon

gets its light.
