Teatime

Tea time is when this world is throbbing with news
And everybody expresses their views
Then tea is served, some like biscuits or cake
Or toast and jam or sandwiches one or two
But me I prefer plum cake, which makes me feel so safe.

Teatime for me is rich in mystery
When witches and rhymes come alive
Goblins in forests and all those happy times when we were children
Our life was so soft and plain
No time to think about loss or gain.

Our parents were always with us
Like honey and bread
They made us feel so well fed
When we were tired we went to sleep
And thought about nothing but happiness to reap.

But now times have changed and so have we
We have so many problems to solve
This world as such has evolved
The simplicity has gone
But myself at times I think about those happier days and that simple world
When people laughed and moments twirled.
