Such Profound Cruelty

What is it to breathe
should the air not be
the vessel by which her scent
is carried to me

And thus provoked
by such aroma, be haunted
with a longing for our closeness
or through desire, beyond desire,
be left gasping?

Nathan Reed Jensen

Hi everyone. I want you all to know that I am in no way an academic/professional/ scholar/student... anything. I've had no courses or lessons. Like most other users I am a complete amateur. The reason I say this is because I see this site as a place of growth and expansion, and where ever possible I will try to offer up my thoughts and suggestions on all works I stumble upon. It is all merely perception and opinion on my part and you are free to take or dismiss at your leisure. My only intention is to be honest and constructive. Most importantly, to contribute and be helpful in this literary community. This goes both ways, because I will rely on your opinions also. I wish to take as much advantage of this platform as possible, that I may become a better writer. That we ALL may become better writers.I rate every poem I read as honestly as I can. I DO give 10's, but I believe anything above a 5 is commendable. I will give a 1 rating, but only if it's obvious the person isn't trying or is being intentionally contentious (racial/spam/griefers). Although, seeing as pages can be 'flagged', I doubt I'll ever have to use it.Feel free to contact me should you wish to get a dialogue going. Whether advice, opinion or even to clarify any posts I make, or positions I take. Discussion isn't something this site caters too, but should be promoted.I've already come across so many talented people here. I have grievances with this site's layout and navigation among other things, but it's the people that make it worthwhile. It is so easy to lose hours in a day reading through page and page of poetry. So let's all just get on with it and have fun![My name is Nathan. I am the sum of my experience, a mere reflection. I mirror everyone I have ever met and everything I have ever done. I will be sculpted by all that is to come. At my very core I find I am, quite simply, a perception. Please allow me a moment while I vent...]Email: nathanrjensen@live.com more…
