Storm

Ron VanHooser 1956 (Franklin County, MO)

The water drums its powerful beat
and darkness smothers the skies.
A flash of light
tears open the night,
but just as quickly dies.

Nature growls a feral warning
that rumbles through the ground.
It takes hold
of heart and soul
with its terrifying sound.

Earth's fury is unmatched,
no matter what the form,
but the strongest lies
within the skies,
the fury of a storm.
