Spelling Bee

This competiton of words and sentences came to me
As I was studying at my school one day to see who
could correctly answer all the words that I probably
wouldn't have ever used one day.

The day of the spelling bee we stood in a row
Faces to the front as each student sat down as
they missed the spelling of the word.

The word I missed I could never remember
Why not jot it down? I ask myself these questions
as if it were important. I guess it is if I still care, but really
it's not fair!

Not fair that I never got to study the words
As my teacher never taught in class only showing up
sitting down wasting time and only smiling when it was lunchtime!

Good grief the spelling bee was important to me
Why couldn't it have been to her? I guess my future remained unknown
as I was drowning in my pain. My pain of loss of what I didn't know. Of what I should have if only I had gotten my fair chance.

That chance is gone! And will always be a question that we have to ask
if bee's work and trees sit which one would be fit to sit and which one would be fit to work? A teacher who sits will only get chopped down as the bee who works will make a sweet meal ready for my next lunchtime!
