Nestled uncomfortably in a small desk-chair
as the pretty students enter the room
engaged in sophomoric conversations
I sit away from the class, against the wall
embracing it as my fortress
why are we starting on a Wednesday in spring?
as if humpday insinuates a decline
I feel strange among these strangers
especially when all of them are younger
this is my last geography course
I expected more familiar faces
rather than god-like smirks
the instructor is going over course materials
as I plan my next hour
