Sonnet of an Unemployed Man

I know this e-mail won't return to me
“They” don't reply a lot to me these days
Though I know why they don't, their choice I see
They're paralyzed with fear, they've lost their ways
While unemployment holds and stays and pays
What happens if it ends before I'm hired?
What if my string of fate has gaps and frays?
Will I then join the hungry, poor, and tired?

My future kids I won't have ever sired
Because I lacked consistent fiscal base
Will shake their heads at me, them, my desired
And shameful unborn dreams I can't misplace

My resume will change and grow and cope
My children will not die my unseen hope
