Smith County Freedom

Behind these bars I cannot sleep;
only now, your memory I keep.
Counting time by days not hours;
not minutes, not seconds, not even showers.

I see no stars, I see no moon;
Hoping only to return home soon.
Somewhere deep inside, I feel to shout;
twisting and pulling my insides out.

Nothing soft, just stone and steel;
Cold and hard, blood to spill.
My mind, it runs to be outside;
confined to chains, this life I ride.

Alone in this bunk, I watch and wait;
silently wishing to end this fate.
One day soon, I'll leave this place;
and cast my eyes upon your face.

Never again do I want to return;
for my fateful lesson has been learned.
In your arms, once again I'll be;
taken for granted, that feeling of free.
