Single Mother

If only you knew
How much mommy loves you
Well now that you are grown
I will explain

I grew up young and crazy
Sometimes I was lazy
Did whatever I pleased
Had a life with ease
However some days I was lost
And didn't know the cost
Of the... decisions I had made

Well I met this man
He was brilliant with his speech
A leader and a preacher
And with his actions
He would teach

He would fall short sometimes
He would break down and cry
But he would always get back up
And do what seemed right

Well one day this man got lost
And he didn't know the cost
Of the... decisions he had made
And this man had went away

But I tell you this here now,
There were moments when I was proud
And during those moments his promise came true
He blessed me with someone, like you

The love I can continue to give
Although it's hard, I admitt
But I would die for this precious gift
I will not bring down, I will uplift

I love you more than life itself
If you were an object
You would be on a shelf

To see you walk, talk and breathe
Is truly a blessing, given to me.

Lanelle Taylor

My name is Lanelle Taylor , I love to write. Usually because I'm a peacemaker outside of writing and do not express myself much especially if I think that it wouldn't make the situation any better, so I would write to escape. I apologize if my poetry is long, repetitive, or doesn't make any sense what so ever. It's more emotional than factual. ♥ Thank you for taking time out of your life to read and criticize. I try my best to say thank you to all the comments. Love all you poets out there, keep up the good work.Live . Love . Laugh . more…
