Silent Morning

Mornings are quiet
Without you to say
Good morning, and
Kiss my cheek

Without you to yawn,
Stretch, and jump
Out of bed

Without you to step
Into the kitchen, on
the tail of our cat

Without you to knock
The pots out of place,
Turn and grin at me

Without you to tear
The newspaper open
And read the weather to me

Without you to pick
Up your coat and drive
To work in our sputtering car

I used to love the quiet
But now it just seems
That every screaming silence
Reminds me of you.
