Separation

How sad at end?
A whimper- a scream?
A sweet release
An end to pain

A sense of loss
A theft of grand proportions
Exhilaration ended
Relationships torn asunder

What of this I have had?
Life has been filled with pain
But those moments- those moments
Of stunning joy

Joy that cast all of the pain aside
That illuminated the darkness
That brought one another
To each other's side

There is the grief
The grief for those left behind
Those that shared this gauntlet
Measured out in time.
