Satan's Slumber

Awakened from a deep and restful sleep,
an angel dark rubbed his eyes and smiled;
His plan to interrupt the day with callous intervention,
rejuvenated by thoughts of mischievous guile.

The subtle smoke of everlasting penance,
disrupted him as he went on his way;
Forever this will haunt his many efforts,
to foil the flock to which Jesus had spoken today.

Uneasiness crept into his wandering soul,
with thoughts of peace and reverence running wild;
How could he manage to overtake the message,
of one who spoke of love like an innocent child ?

Satan's slumber left him dazed and totally dismayed,
as he watched the many 'chosen ones' linked in solidarity;
He could not erase the beauty of their undying faith,
while heavenly hosts sang along with fiercesome loyality.

It's often been said that Satan never sleeps,
and everyone must be vigilant just in case;
Temptations toward an evil life invade our souls,
with thoughts that bring us farther from God's grace.

At Easter we are mindful of the abject cruelty,
the Devil sought to disperse among the crowd;
Yet when Christ finally gave His life in torment and sacrifice,
His dying words echoed fervently throughout the world.
