Sam's Middle Child Blues, Abridged

Sam is eight years old
He lives with his mom and dad
He lives with his two siblings too
And sometimes that makes him sad.

Sam was once the youngest child
The one that Mom and Dad adored
But now that Sam is the middle child
He only gets ignored.

So Sam decides to leave home
When he's finally had enough
But when he sees that it's dark outside
He thinks, "I'll wait until sunup."

While waiting for morning to come
He falls asleep on the bed
He dreams of good times with his family
As someone kisses his head.

So they still love me he realizes
As he drifts into a deeper sleep
Snuggling under the covers with his teddy bear
And tucking in his soiled little feet.
