Ruminations

Thoughts tend to wander in late hours of night,
visions of life that don't seem quite right;
Darkness impedes our ability to discern,
the real from the imagined at every turn.

As victims of our mind's overgrowing whims,
we call out in horror confessing our sins;
The ghosts of the past rear their ugly heads,
screaming and ranting while we're lying in bed.

Moonlight provides solace as we try to rest,
with positive vibrations which meet the test;
Of a challenging world spinning inside our hearts,
which threatens to tear our existence apart.

Some chamomile tea to calm shaky nerves,
a welcome relief that our body deserves;
Again and again we take sips from the cup,
with hopes that its comfort will soon interrupt...

All the whirring and jostling rumbling around,
while the mystery deepens with a mournful sound...

We doze off for awhile then the clock strikes 4,
and find that we've walked through an open door;
Far from wild ruminations finally drifting away,
as we learn to survive them for one more day.
