Roses Amongst Fern

My lady, life's sweet lesson you would learn
At love's enchanted arbor, come with me.
Just overhead the trellised roses burn;
Around your feet the feathery fern you'll see.

Though petals of the roses fall, they're sweet
And have been lovely in their beauty's prime
While fern so bare seems ever to repeat,
For us no blossom but greets flower time.

Heed you the lesson, life has leaves to wend
And flowers to be cherished; summer glows
With rose amongst the fern, it's nature's blend
Of summer's green of fern and bloom of rose.

Wait not till autumn's fading robes are shed
But gather life's full rose while burning red.
