Rivers, Oceans, Planets, etc.

These waters I flow through
Are not the ones I knew
The water here is bitter
This is not my river

Not steady and known
Not where we belong

Not a river, you see
It just won't be

No it's true, the water is wet
(Or at least, last I checked)
But teeth make me tender
And I'm a slow swimmer

Oh, no, no I'm a fish
(A seafood dish?)
But faster finners make winner
And I make your dinner

Not familiar nor fair
Not neither ne'er

For you're a fish too
So what if I'm blue?
There's a world of harpoons
And forks and spoons

But can shrimp shell sharks
Without sharp remarks?

No, the water here is bitter
This is not my river

Not a river, you see
It just won't be

Cinique LeNoir

I was born in 1984, in McComb, Mississippi. I took to writing at a young age and made my own serial character by the age of six, and it wasn't long before my classmates would come to me asking what new stories I had written.Whenever I got the opportunity I took Creative Writing and English classes, but having an abusive father made me insecure about my own gifts and over time I drifted away from writing around the age of 19.When I returned to writing, later, in college. My work took a more ironic approach and humor. I usually prefer to pack depth into simplicity.Although some of my poems are purely fun, sometimes my more serious poems are mistaken for fun because of light hearted metaphores used for dark subjects, and it's extremely rare that I write long poems (I don't think it's necessary). I try to say what I want by tailoring lines to mean a lot in a few words. I also like to experiment with rhythm and design.Even though I usually think a lot about each line, sometimes I just write as it comes to me. more…
