Requiescat...My Old Friend

Without saying a word, my wife and I
Talked volume--so loud, in fact--a yell,
It was that we looked at each other shocked
And embarrassed--we were there...
"In the same place" they were.
One commandment--
A "recipe" for a loving and lasting relationship
I read not so long ago come to mind:
"Thou shalt not shame your partner
By yelling at him or her in public."
She yelled at him so loud (for not getting
Her brand of sliced bread in the store) that
So many heads turned...driving him
To walk away teary-eyed...murmuring.
I knew the man so well. He was a friend
Of mine for a score and nine.
Last year, his wife of forty some years
Died of lung cancer. And I cried with him.
Last week, my friend said to me:
"Living is sure hell without my wife."
Last night, my friend took his own life.
Requiescat in pace, my old friend.
