Renewal

I am born again with my son,
(he of the WIDE-eyed wonder)
and the world unfolds anew

I learn to smile with joyous glee, not guile
discovering how selfless love exists
in a woman who fights with me

I learnt yesterday how
a bright, red ball is so fascinating
and HOW amazing are new sounds

I ask myself
how so much JOY can spring
from everything so ordinary

Maybe it is ME who has grown ordinary
Maybe . . . over long, long years
I just grew smaller
