Provision

Grandpa skins potatoes the old-fashioned way:
paring knife, not the double-edged peeler,
starting up mashed potatoes
for the family dinner.

The earth-grown potatoes
gleam in the basin,
they have maintained the nations
cheap and hearty.

His rough hands have raised
house and family from dirt up,
by meager resource unearthed
his children's glowing faces.
