Porcelain Doll

Porcelain Doll

It was a cold December day
on Christmas Eve in eight eight
A baby was born
not too soon not too late.

I remember sitting all alone
and Santa coming to see me
He gave me a white puppy
and told me about the new baby.

I went to the nursery
and saw her for the first time
She looked like a porcelain doll
and she was all mine.

Her hair was black
her nose so small
with lips so red
and fists in a ball.

My baby sister
was my new toy
I was so glad
she wasn't a boy.

I dressed her up
and she'd dance and sing.
I would take her for walks
and show her everything.

Next thing you know
my porcelain doll with glasses
was old enough
to be changing classes.

At this tender age
she learned tough love
when a best friend was called
to be an angel up above.

She learned to be independent
being the middle child
She had her moments
of being carefree and wild.

Then luck really decided
to stop going her way
and my porcelain doll
struggles day after day.

She struggles daily with
the ghosts of her past
and has learned some lessons
that's made her grow fast.

If fate can hear me
I'm down on my knees
Cut her some slack
I'm begging you please.

Ease up the anger
the hurt and the pain
Give her the strength
to trust again.

Give her the skills
to get through college
Give her the thirst
for unquenchable knowledge.

And when the timing is right
give her the confidence to know
that she managed to do it
all on her own.

An inspiring woman
she has grown to be
but she will always be my
porcelain doll to me.
