Por Mi Hermano

Oh Brother, I'm lost.
Had my wires all crossed,
Wand'ring these stormy seas for days
And on these crashing waves been tossed;
Drowning in the ocean sprays,
Seeking dry land at any cost.

Oh Brother, I'm lost.

-

Oh Brother, I'm alone
So far away from home,
Stumbling through the crowded street
With a heart as hard as stone;
Spurning every One I meet
Without an ounce of kindness shown.

Oh Brother, I'm alone.

-

Oh Brother, I'm afraid
That the way that I've behaved
May have alienated every One
Who might otherwise have stayed;
I've sent them all on the run,
And for that I am ashamed.

Oh Brother, I'm afraid.

-

Oh Brother, I'm tired,
Weighed down by guilt that I've acquired,
Dragging on for endless days
Just waiting to expire;
Counting all the countless ways
I've let down those that I'd admired.

Oh Brother, I'm tired.

-
I beg of you, on bended knee
To take pity upon your brother.
Though you may not remember me,
Know we once shared the same mother;
So ask you to heed my plea
One sibling, to another.

Oh Brother, I'm lost.

I am a university student from Texas, and a bit of a closet-poet. Perhaps I should keep it in the closet, but I am interested in getting feedback on some of my poetry. Let me know what you think! I used to write a lot of poetry when I was a little kid, but eventually lost interest as I got older. I started writing poetry again as a form of art-therapy during a really hard time in my life. I like to try to experiment with different styles and strange metaphors. Understandably, this can make some of my poetry less accessible at times, but occasionally I feel like it pays off. more…
