Playful Creatures

PLAYFUL CREATURES
Blackbirds and sparrows plus a thrush or two,
These little creatures come into view,
Chasing each other getting ready to nest,
Hopping on the lawn along with the rest.

Back and forth looking left and right,
As I watch there's a certain delight,
Quick and slow even still at times,
Perhaps a meal or crumb it finds.

Black against green with an orange beak,
Perhaps a mate the blackbirds seek?
How they carvort on the fence of wood,
Amazing their agility its remarkable and good.

The petite sparrows smaller by far,
One minute gone the next there they are,
On a chair or a wire perhaps,
Cute and quick these smaller chaps.

In the meantime a seagull goes by,
Swiftly it glides in the morning sky,
Fleeting the vision but black and white,
Instantly no more its soon out of sight.

Those speckled thrush's its special they be,
How they move then stop to look at me,
Suddenly they plunge their break in the ground,
Yes a worm it's this one has found.!

Startling these antics daily its done,
Most in shade before the rising sun,
Dew on grass still motionless and set,

Another day starts and it gets better yet!

I have been writing poems for forty years and written about all sorts of things. Somehow I get creating streaks and can write up to 4 or 5 poems at once of varying subjects. I find it is a good way to record events of the day and bring history to life. The mental aspect is a balance against keeping fit, work and life in general. more…
