Persistence of Memory

An old man sat upon the curb,
perturbed as the world brought
semi-forgotten memories,
the ones we wished were never there.
His gray hair had lost its color,
but reds, greens, and blues
have seeped through the cover
of his mind; he is haunted.
Daunted by the vividity,
he longs for sympathy,
for long-remembered memories
have left the mortuaries to come here.
A faded memory; that’s what he is,
his face has left everyone’s mind,
stolen from tangible use,
misused and broken by the world.
With many loved ones gone,
there is no one left to sing his song,
poor man, bereft and alone,
with only the memories to own him.
