Peeling Layers

Sometimes late at night
I pull you out of the darkness,
Memories clinging from the past.
I spend many endless nights
Peeling layer after layer away,
Clothing your bones in new garments.
Trying to breathe new life into your old clothes.
I brush your lips with love.
I hold you close before you fall back,
Leaving me behind to wander
Through empty darkened rooms,
Looking for the fragments of our lost love story.
Misery tugs at the old storage space
Dislodging false memories.
Spilling out old skeletons and broken bones,
Reminding me that I am better off alone.
