Peas

I am picking peas
off my kitchen floor
for the tenth time today.
I hear small feet approaching.
I lie in ambush.
Peering around the corner,
I spy Joe Michael
slouched against the kitchen wall,
the fridge door swung wide,
his eyes closed, mouth open,
peas dripping from his little fist.
