Party of Guilt

Whispers from the attic
Scream in my mind
I can hear a stick
Bang bars to the gate I live behind
Call the kids in from the street
Their dinner's cold and you know they won't eat
Just more of the same old, same old same old, defeat

Clouded before my eye
Streaming from my page
I watch vandals paint
A grim neighborhood filled with rage
Truth so faint, we can't pretend
We never heard the note strung end to end
But tears slide down your throat, lonely cocktail, my friend

A leaf fell from its tree
Floating aimlessly
Charred for the harvest
Turn away from the feast
There's no one to blame
For this injustice
Only us
The leaf swoons
It lights the nights
We ask why it dies
