Pain

People say that pain is a good thing.
That pain is an indicator-
A line drawn in the sand from which,
You tell whether or not to continue
What it is you're doing to cause it.

Growing up, people would act
As if pain is a word in a book
That gives guidelines on how you should learn
And live and understand yourself better.

"Pain makes you stronger"
"Pain helps you know you're alive"

Well that doesn't help somebody who feels their pain on the inside!

That doesn't speak to the girl who causes physical pain to her wrist
Because she cannot see the wounds left by snide remarks in the hallways
And lunchrooms at school!

That doesn't help the child who lost both parents to, not death but
The knowledge that she was merely a burden set upon them at an
Inconvenient moment in their precious lives!

That doesn't help the girl who cried and screamed mercy
To a young man unwilling to hear her through his own selfish
Ears and desires that couldn't wait for an answer from somebody of
Age and willing!

Pain doesn't give you strength
It's what you do with it!
Picking yourself up even though you're in agony
And bleeding on the inside and just wishing that somebody
Could be trusted enough to lend you a bed for the night
Without worrying that they will be your next shatter!

Pain isn't strength

Pain isn't pleasure

Pain is the sand...
Don't let others draw the line for you!
And draw the line for yourself!
