Pacific Bay Mission at Sunset

Strangely enough today both the sky
and the bay water are washed over
in shades of orange and creamy white
similar in shade to the clay tiles
of the mission's roof
and from the third floor looking out
I can see the sand clear like crushed glass
sparkling beneath the pale palms
which provide such little shade
that the gulls and terns cover
what cool ground there is
at the end of the bay
past the tall thin sails of the banana boats
cutting through the water
I can see the light grey cliffs
which would blend into the clouds
were it not for the orange stain
which the setting sun has given them
beyond that, the bay cliffs and clouds,
I can see nothing
