Over The Years

When a hint of heartache first came my way,
I didn't have God with me that day.
No one had told me I wasn't alone,
That there was a God sitting on a throne.
I didn't know Jesus was sent down to me
To live in my heart for eternity.
When I first found out I felt relief,
But my feeling of joy was short and brief,
Because I thought that God could only love me,
If I was as perfect as perfect could be.
So all of the years as I looked above,
I saw a stern God, not One of love.
Then finally, while in my deepest pain,
His love touched my heart again and again.
Now alone no more will I ever be,
Because my God of Love walks right next
to me.
