Ordinary Things

In the course of our everyday lives, we will pass things we just don't notice
Due to the regularity with which we encounter them, as a penguin with the ice
Where he may fish regularly, run to meet others, or simply dive for a swim
Which can, too often, happen with people, as our barber while we get a trim
So that we have to consciously slow ourselves in our mad rush for more
To actually see and experience someone, making them feel more important than the door
Through which we enter the room to see this person who is important, unique
And when we do take that tack, we see that our interest does indeed pique
With the person responding positively to our genuine interest and appreciation
Causing our interaction with him to grow and deepen, allowing much better relation
