One Short Life

I am a child,
covered in jewels
of imagination,
lost in the luxury
of not knowing
what lies ahead.

I am growing up,
fake jewelry loses value,
and I hide from the lies
and beg for salvation,
hoping to plan
and asking the pain to pass.

I am an adult,
refusing the smallest
of my past dreams,
rejecting what,
in my mind,
could never be.

I am sickly, dying
in the arms
of a loved one
though no one
else knows
I was already dead.
