One O One! (Part 1)

First, there was one,
And then, there are four--
To love and care and nurture.
One of the four is love.
The rest are all dolors--
Strung together in breath-taking colors.
Love is my pride and joy.
The rest are needles and thorns that
Countless times made me bleed and cry.
And yes, countless times--die.
And I'm still here hangin' around?
My pride and joy, I must confess,
Is the wonderful reason why.
On two...two took turns in taking all
The daylights out of me...
Leaving me in the shadow of
My long night's journey into day...
Lost and dying.
