On the Move

The slimy slug family swirled and slid
Happily across the basement floor;
Their trails came from a tunnel
Right behind a hidden door.

Their usual whispers were lately
Starting to get extra loud;
They've had several new additions
To their rapidly enlarging crowd.

A big party will be held later
To celebrate their growing group;
It will be a festive gala
With plenty of fresh bug soup.

They knew they had to leave the basement
By finding a quick way to expand;
It they could just get to the first floor
It would be absolutely grand.

They were putting their slug brains together
To plan a way up the stairs;
But it would be especially risky
As they would have to travel in pairs.

The slug with the biggest brain
Had a new plan with a sneaky way to hide;
Instead of trying to climb the steps
They would slither up the side.

But they barely got lined up and started
When this big head from above popped out;
A woman unleashed a barrage of words
That turned into one long shout.

Are you guys trying to get real sneaky
By marching up the railing!?
You know if you fall off of there
You'll spend a long time ailing!
