Old Sonny Day

There was a donkey
Down by the way,
In the meadow
Where we used to play.
We'd feed him carrots
And we'd feed him hay,
He used to laugh
And he used to bray.
And so we named him
Sonny Day,
That dear old donkey
Down by the way.
But time moved on and we couldn't stay
We all grew up and we moved away,
But I always thought of Old Sonny Day
Down in the meadow and along by the way.
So my wife and I
Drove out one day,
And we took the kids
And we thought we'd stray,
Along by the meadow and down by the way.
I'd told them the story
Of Old Sonny Day
Down by the meadow
Where we used to play,
Then as I spoke I heard a distant bray
Over the hill was that Sonny Day?
A tear filled my eye
As joy filled my day,
When over the hill
Walked Old Sonny Day.
Well it must be true, God bless this day,
A donkey's life is long they say.
So we went and got some carrots
And we went and got some hay,
And we fed our dear friend
Sonny Day.
Well Sonny he still laughed
And Sonny he'd still bray,
God bless you kindly my Old Sonny Day.
Sonny Day Old Sonny Day
Along by the meadow and down by the way,
We fed him carrots
And we fed him hay,
He used to laugh
And he used to bray,
That dear old donkey Sonny Day.
