October Hearts

We're both sitting on the front porch
With open minds and open hearts
The icy morning air wraps around us and
Finds a place to nip
Our eyes are looking onward into
The changes of new seasons
But mine keep wandering to their corners
To capture bits of you
And collect them like a puzzle
I smile and blush and look away
You never know
You've never caught me
I start to wonder what you think about
And what you're thinking about right now
As we sit here and stare out
Into the cold gray morning's dawn
My eyes now looking fully to you
And then you slightly stir
I stumble while I sit
Quietly catch my breath, and catch
My racing heart
My heart
What if you would pick my heart?
Pick it like a dying leaf off a tree
Peel back browned leafy layers and
Discover each brilliant shade of Fall
