Not Always Good to be Tall

It was a good day to plant ... they said.
Watermelon seeds went into the ground.
Even food was added ... less than a pound.
The vines grew with more vigor than ever seen.
They were tall and especially green.
Watermelon vines are not supposed to be tall.
They are supposed to be on the ground with big, sweet fruit.
Mine were tall ... grew straight up and ... I got no watermelons at all.
Next year if there is a planting ... the last thing ever to be listened to is what 'they said'.
