No more pain

Changing colors strike summer's tresses
Shifting glimpses of love past and gone
Rummy eyes blink to see more clearly
Are you there on the other side?
‘One more pain before I die.'

Heartbreaks past but not forgotten
The youthful lies, fresh on these lips,
Slow is the step, broken lover,
One more step to the other side.
‘One more pain before I die.'

Probing desires, flood conscious cravings
Wishes formed, relief from reality
As the ‘old drunk' stumbles on
Questing the path to the other side
‘One more pain before I die.'

Past memories, real in his ears
Youth doesn't understand, the tears
He feels their pain to come, knowing
They follow his steps to the other side
‘One more pain before I die.'

“Party for me.” He tries to croak
“Celebrate my passing, I knew love,”
“I felt great joy, and pains magnificent,”
Testaments of the path, to the other side
‘No more pain, I'm on the other side.'
