nightmares

Anny McNeilus 1982 (Minnesota)

My dreams of you have turned to nightmares...
In them you only look at me with empty stares.

You tell me you love me then turn away...
In these messages you tell me to go then you tell me to stay.

These nightmares haunt my days and my nights...
I remember all of our horrible fights.

I think perhaps these nightmares are for the best..
Now maybe I can put my love for you to rest...

But try as I might I can't let my love for you go...
Though it is what I need to do, this I do know.

I need to turn away from you, the way you do to me in my sleep...
But the love I feel for you, my heart wants to keep.

Frustration flows through me and I don't know how to cope...
I think that holding onto these feelings will only make me mope...

Screaming inside my wants and feelings are torn...
Loving you and losing you both seem to make me mourn.
