New Wind

the winds of change blow hard
and fast against the walls
of hate and power
and as I watch in rapt attention, smiling,
the gale speeds and dances
and whipsers
the beauty of a new day, gusting
into the present;
a day fresh with those brand new winds
those winds blown full of past
beliefs that were the solid ground
until a day so far ago when glory
began to die and honor was just a word
scorned by the new ones
who saw no creature as one but all as one
and the air created by this mass
was stale and rank
but now the old new wind blows freedom
and I watch as one,
one free one, breathing deep
