New Start

New Start

So much to learn
but unable to trust
for the young take advantage
the old count the cost
of whatever confronts
what they once held so dear
is destroyed by the sheep
who now follow in fear

So noble a man
who fought so many foe
in the troubles that came
to endanger the babes
who played hide and seek
in the craters they made
just to grow to forget
such a price had been paid

So feeble he lays
in a huddle of stench
as the young circle round
and continue to taunt
such a hero who fought
so that they were in place
to set fire to his rags
and to laugh in his face

So time has now come
to correct all that's wrong
and to savour each moment
in these coming days
for the wise to invest
in the goodness of heart
that remains in their children
and to make a new start

Dave Ratcliffe

Some of my imagery may seem a little on the dark side at times but I feel the pain of the chastened and broken among my close family and friends. I write from the heart to express my innermost thoughts through song lyrics and poetry. I try always, ‘to be true to my philosophy of understanding tolerance, to share my perceptions and desires with integrity’. I have just finished my first play which was both a challenging and rewarding experience, which I intend to follow up on. I enjoy reading poetry from all over the world. Poetry.com is a great platform for me to network with other like-minded people and showcase my own work for others to be moved and inspired. After all this is the duty of a poet…I have just had my first poetry book published with the Title Scratching the Page and my thanks go to Michael Dobson for producing it and to all those who read it more…
