My Louisiana Home

I remember my Louisiana home well.
And it gives me comfort.

It feels like cotton . . . warm and gentle
like the cotton fields
that surround its farms.

It looks like a solitary woman . . . strong and purposeful
like the old oak trees hung with Spanish moss
that cover its landscape.

It smells like the sea . . . fresh and salty
like the cool breezes off the Gulf of Mexico
that blow upon its shores.

It tastes like spices . . . hot and rich
like the famous Creole dishes
that are cooked in its kitchens.

It sounds like music to my ears . . . Cajun voices
"Chere, come down to de fais do-do and pass a good time on de bayou."

I remember my Louisiana home well.
And it gives me comfort.
