My Dear Daddy
My dear daddy now awaits!
Must hurry - driving so fast,
please excuse my awful haste.
Praying the minutes will last
as there's just no time to waste.
To give one final farewell -
so many things left to tell.
But life's clock is ticking too fast
out of time - indeed, almost gone
A few more sands down the hourglass
and then 'twill be just me to carry on.
Your talent for makin' music was unsurpassed
Like sounds coming down from Heav'n above
Filling house and hearts with your deep love
never thought it would end, but even it couldn't last.
To hear you play those strings -
Was something right out of a dream
To hear you perform again, I'd give anything
You now play violin and guitar for the King of Kings!
And thank you, dear Dad,
my audience and biggest fan
You taught me and encouraged me
in guitar and every plan.
And, oh, to hear you sing a song!
No doubt it will be heaven's choice
to have your beautiful bass voice
joining the angelic choir throng.
“It's okay, dear Dad,
Please, go now and rest.
You've given all you had -
Many treasured gifts to us
and laid up in Heav'n above -
Oh, how richly we've been blessed
with your faith, hope and love!”
With a heart full of grace and feelings
you gave credit where credit was due,
never withholding a compliment - or even two!
‘Twas just one of the many things
we always so admired about you.
How fitting for dear dad,
Who was long ago re-born,
To depart this terrestrial world
on a sunny Sunday morn!
And into a beautiful blue sky
your sanctified spirit freed to fly
to a new home supernal
where Love reigns eternal.
Maybe 'tis wrong,
but I really must admit -
I do envy you, dear Dad,
yes, quite a bit.
More than ready
to join you there
“Lord, come quickly!”
my perpetual prayer.
But if He chooses to wait
I know ‘tis only a little while
Till I'm greeted by your smile
and warm embrace
when we meet again, face-to-face.
For soon I, too, will fly away,
where “goodbye” we'll nevermore say.
Sharing endless days filled with praise
in that promised land of eternal day.
I can almost imagine
what you might say
if you could have a talk
here with me today:
"Don't cry for me,
I've completed my race
now claiming my reward
in that much better place.
Where I can relax and unwind,
tell all my favorite stories,
and share what's on my mind.
You know...just like old times."
Yes, me and you, my dear Daddy -
and many loved ones gone before -
again talking & walking, hand-in-hand,
our paths lit by Him on that peaceful shore.
No more trials - no more bodies sore,
just happy and blessed forevermore!
