My constant companion

My constant companion

He was with me the day I began to appease the coward in me
to allow an injustice despite hearing plea's from the poor infidel
that I left in my wake so he sank to his knees.

He was with me again on that hot summers day
in the feverish moment when I broke a trust
and so caused a delay in responding to impulse
beyond what I'd sought until she walked away

He was with me when I inflicted great pain
on an innocent prey
and then left all my washing out there in the rain
for all those who mock AND take heart from my fall
so I lost yet again.

He is with me this moment
tormenting my mind
as I struggle to focus on my heart's desire
to seek and to find who I wish I could be
if it was not for he who would wish me unkind

Dave Ratcliffe

Some of my imagery may seem a little on the dark side at times but I feel the pain of the chastened and broken among my close family and friends. I write from the heart to express my innermost thoughts through song lyrics and poetry. I try always, ‘to be true to my philosophy of understanding tolerance, to share my perceptions and desires with integrity’. I have just finished my first play which was both a challenging and rewarding experience, which I intend to follow up on. I enjoy reading poetry from all over the world. Poetry.com is a great platform for me to network with other like-minded people and showcase my own work for others to be moved and inspired. After all this is the duty of a poet…I have just had my first poetry book published with the Title Scratching the Page and my thanks go to Michael Dobson for producing it and to all those who read it more…
