My 'Black' Experience
Rose colored with silver threads entwined in,
The soft flowing cloth
V'd across my breast clinging and hugging me, silky soft
A rope of this hue tied around my,
Twenty-four inch waist
One of the many places he always loves to take a taste
Fabric light as a feather swirling past my thirty-six inch hips
He says he loves my body's curves in,
Dresses such as this
Falling silently and elegantly to the floor in a,
Sixties style with a flip
I study myself in the mirror,
He will be here soon don't trp!
He's a weatherman, he predicts it,
A shame he cannot fix it!
I look around the room,
It is bathed in smoldering yellow candlelight,
In the background his favorite tune by 'Kleer' playing
'Fly me to the Moon'
The phone rings, I jump at the sound
It hits me like a sting!
I shake my head, I ball my fist,
I really want him to be with me!
I blow out two candles, I leave one lit,
My disappointment is fit,
He is the man I love to be with!
I wander to the stero, its face glows in the candlelight,
I put on Bobby Womack's,
'A Woman's Gotta Have It' but,
Apparently not tonight!
I lay across crisp opium scented sheets,
The Isley Brother's, 'Voyage to Atlantis'
Takes me to a semi-peaceful and restless sleep
I hear a noise,
It is muffled and dull,
I open my eyes to pitch black,
I suddenly realize all at once,
There was someone staring at me throught the black
I smile to myself; my baby did show up tonight
He moves smoothly, knowingly toward the light,
He stops, he turns I sit up and say,
"So are you gonna turn on the light?"
He drops his hand and moves toward me,
It was then,
In that fraction of an instance,
I knew deep in my bones
This was not the man I was missing!
He talked to me for three hours,
Stroking my hair, feeling my face
His silver pointed extension always present and
Near my face
They said to keep him talking,
About anything, chit-chat
He asked,
"Are you a white woman?"
"Your hair is so soft; your skin feels smooth as glass"
He touched my body from head to toe as
I lay naked in my bed
He said I felt beautiful and
He wanted to see my face in the candlelight glare
I begged and pleaded with him
"Please give me a chance to live"
"I do not want to see your face so,"
"Identification from your mind you can erase"
Nothing I could have done would stop this,
Nothing I could have said would he have understood
The degradation and humiliation of a
'Sister' by a 'Brother' and,
I did not live in the hood
Louisiana is a killing state,
I did not want him to die for this kind of hurtful mistake
I did want someone to see my worth and
Decide at least a part of his fate!
It was 'Black on Black' crime,
Six months was his time!
I was told it would be hard to convince 12 white people of the crime Because
I was not PHYSICALLY brutalized!
Robbery was it and
Without my testimony or consent,
It was finalized!
Six months later a real good friend of mine was
Sentenced to twenty-five years in Leavenworth with,
An alibi, witnesses and character references
He was picked out without question!
Twenty-five years for the same damn crime except this time
A white woman was crying!
If you want to know the worth of your society,
Look to your justice, then, look to your women
Justice must be justice for all or, the society will fall!
How can you disrespect your women?
They raise the children and,
Show them the way
Disrespect your women
Dole out unfair justice,
Sooner or later the morals of the society are at question!
How can hate be quenched when,
It is clear the color of my skin
Afforded me no justice?
To my 'Brother' I say,
I forgive you this day, it was a long time coming
I must say!
Of all the experiences I had,
This was the most profound,
Which is sad but,
My 'Spirit' and 'Soul'
You never
Touched or Had!
