Mountain Tops

We struggle for the mountain top
and find nothing is there.
On every side there's a sheer drop
yet sights are wondrous rare.

We struggle for the first in line
and find some other wait.
On every side there's a land mine
yet ranks are charming bait.

We struggle for the better seat
and find obstructed view.
On every side there's bit defeat
yet fronts are special coup.

We struggle for the fastest lane
and find extra gridlock.
On every side there's idle bane
yet rates are for the clock.

We struggle for the lofty prize
and find vacuous praise.
On every side there's a demise
yet fames are all ablaze.
