Mommy's Mask

I have always wondered why mommy wears a mask,
But I am always too shy and afraid to ask.
She told me one day, it's because she's insecure,
But then I had second thoughts on that, I wasn't sure.
I finally stepped up and asked her what was the deal,
And she at last spoke the truth so good and real,
Her sister burned her, many years ago,
And I cried, thinking that couldn't be so.
We all have things we need to hide,
Life is a hard and heavy ride,
When mommy spoke of her childhood so lame,
I knew she would never be the same.

My name is Milaena, I am a 15-year-old classical pianist, Steinway Junior Artist, singer, songwriter, writer, and visual artist from Los Angeles, California. I love swimming, making movies at home as well as new friends. I love the gothic and vintage styles & am so fortunate to be able to post my work for millions of poets to read & review. This is a great opportunity for everyone on here and gives people feedback on what they need to change in their work. I believe this is much more productive than constantly being on social networking websites since people have the chance to express their lives on poetry.com. more…
