Missing You

The cat in my lap lies quietly purring,
breast rising and falling like the night's gentle waves.
Each breath taken is serenely assuring,
In softness and warmth all my worries allayed.

Though not alone, I still become lonely
As I suddenly sense that I've missed you all day.
So the cat is some comfort, but only
enough to happily hope your return's not delayed.

Now you lie in my arms gently breathing,
